Windows 11 Insider Build 2026-10-27 includes Advanced Performance Extensions (APX), a new feature aimed at improving performance on upcoming Intel and AMD processors. The update introduces a settings option for APX, which is expected to reduce memory loads by up to 10% and double register usage. This change is part of Microsoft’s preparation for next-generation CPUs like Nova Lake and Diamond Rapids.
The APX feature is currently available in the Insider Build 29695, but it remains inactive on existing hardware. Users with older Intel or AMD processors cannot benefit from the performance improvements until compatible hardware becomes available. The update also includes a visual indicator for APX settings within the system’s performance options.
Microsoft has been working closely with Intel and AMD to optimize Windows 11 for future processor architectures. The APX feature is part of a broader effort to enhance system performance and efficiency. While the feature is not yet available on current hardware, it represents a step toward better compatibility and performance in upcoming hardware releases. The update is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
